Efficiency (J/TH)

Efficiency (J/TH) is an indicator of a mining device's energy efficiency, reflecting the amount of energy consumed to perform one terahash of computations.

The value is measured in joules per terahash (J/TH) and is calculated as the ratio of the device's power consumption to its Hashrate.

Interpretation of the value:

  • A lower J/TH value indicates higher energy efficiency of the device.
  • A higher J/TH value means increased power consumption per unit of computational power.

Practical significance:

The Efficiency metric is used for:

  • evaluating the economic efficiency of mining;
  • comparing different ASIC miner models;
  • selecting optimal operating modes (frequency, voltage);
  • analyzing the impact of firmware and settings on power consumption.

Impact on operation:

A low J/TH value:

  • reduces electricity costs;
  • decreases heat generation;
  • increases mining profitability at a fixed electricity cost.

Typical ranges:

  • ≤ 30 J/TH — high energy efficiency
  • 30–35 J/TH — standard efficiency
  • > 40 J/TH — low energy efficiency
