Managing Members
The Members section shows who has access to the organization, their roles, and accessible sites. Here you manage access: temporarily suspend members, restore access, modify roles, or remove users from the organization.
Opening the Section v1.0.0-alpha4
Organization → Members in the sidebar menu. Available only in a Business organization.
| Role | Permissions in Members |
|---|---|
| Owner | Full control: invite, suspend, remove, edit roles and sites for any member |
| Administrator | Same actions for members with roles below their own (Operations Manager, Technician, Viewer / Customer). Actions on the Owner and other Administrators are disabled |
| Operations Manager, Technician | View-only access to the roster |
| Viewer / Customer | Section is hidden |
Member Roster
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Member's account name. The owner is tagged with an Owner badge |
| Email address used for the invitation | |
| Role | Organization role |
| Sites | Sites the member has access to. For Owner and Administrator — all |
| Joined | Date when the invitation was accepted |
| Last Sign In | Most recent sign-in date to Pulse — helps identify inactive accounts |
| Status | Pending — invitation not yet accepted, Blocked — access paused |
In a newly created organization, before anyone has accepted an invite, only the Owner is listed.
Member Actions
Menu ⋮ in the member's row:
| Action | What Happens | How to Restore |
|---|---|---|
| Edit role | Modifies the member's role and accessible sites. New permissions take effect immediately | Edit again via Edit role |
| Block | Member immediately loses access to the organization. Role and site bindings are preserved; marked with a Blocked tag | Unblock — access is restored instantly without sending a new invite |
| Remove | Member is removed from the organization and access is revoked upon their next action in Pulse | Only by sending a new invitation |
Restrictions:
- The Owner has no actions on their own row — the Owner cannot be deleted or suspended.
- An Administrator cannot suspend, delete, or change roles for the Owner or other Administrators, and can only assign roles lower than their own via Edit role.
Member Notifications
Email notifications are dispatched for key lifecycle events:
| Action | Subject Line |
|---|---|
| Block | Your access to Organization Name has been paused |
| Unblock | Your access to Organization Name has been restored |
| Remove | You've been removed from Organization Name — clarifying that their personal account remains active |
The action takes effect even if email delivery fails. For details on how suspensions and removals appear to the member, see "Working in Multiple Organizations".
How It Works
- Removal does not delete the user account. The member loses access only to your organization; their account, personal space, and memberships in other organizations remain intact.
- Suspension (Block) is a reversible pause. Useful when access must be suspended temporarily without losing assigned roles and site mappings.
- If a removed member has no other organizations, they are prompted to choose an account type (Personal / Business) on their next sign-in.
Typical Scenarios
- Employee on leave or internal audit — Block, then Unblock later. Role and sites are preserved.
- Employee departs or contractor finishes contract — Remove. If they return, send a new invitation.
- Staff member reassigned to another farm — update assigned sites via Edit role.
- Technician promoted to site lead — change role from Technician to Operations Manager via Edit role.
- Access review — sort by Last Sign In to audit dormant accounts.
Notes
- Remove in Members and Remove account in Account are distinct actions. Remove revokes a user's access to a single organization. Remove account permanently erases the user's personal account entirely (see "Account Deletion").
- A removed member can be re-invited at any time without restrictions.
Inviting Members
An invitation grants a user access to your organization with a specific role and set of sites. Knowing their email is sufficient: advance registration in Pulse is not required — the user account can be created upon accepting the invitation.
Working in Multiple Organizations
A single Pulse account can belong to multiple organizations at once — for example, a service engineer might manage farms across different clients, while a hosting client also maintains their own Personal farm. There is no separate organization switcher: everything is accessible directly from the standard site switcher. `v1.0.0-alpha4`
